Happy Tasting at Apalachicola’s Annual Forgotten Coast Chefs Sampler

Because it’s hosted by a city with the memorable name of Apalachicola, you should expect the 22nd annual Forgotten Coast Chefs Sampler to be uniquely fun. Presented by the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce, the event features chefs from all over the Forgotten Coast, preparing and serving their most creative dishes. It’s scheduled for Sunday, February 11, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Magic Is in the Details

Also participating in the event, held in the historic Fort Coombs Armory,  are local shopkeepers, artists, and designers, who lend their own creativity to the decoration of individual tables. Each of the tables features its own unique theme, ranging from artistic to elegant to funky. It’s no wonder this event has been going strong for more than two decades, making its date one to mark on the calendar months in advance.

While you’re in town for this fun and tasty sampling, you’ll also want to take in the views of the area’s pristine beaches, bays, and marshes. There are ample opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and hiking, as well. Guided tours are available up the Apalachicola River to see the historic waterfront.

Apalachicola boasts several museums and has many fine old homes and buildings, including the cotton warehouses that once stored one of the city’s biggest exports. Apalachicola has more than 900 structures listed in its National Historic District. Many of these, including the landmark Trinity Episcopal Church, date back to the early 1800s.
