Let the Kids Go WILD This Summer

by S. Lynne on June 28th, 2012

The kids will have a ball — and you’ll get a break and some time on your own — when you enroll them in SummerWILD Children’s Camp at Destin’s HarborWalk Village, a day camp for youngsters entering grades 1 — 6. Sponsored by Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge, SummerWILD is an educational program that includes informal classes conducted by real marine biologists at sites around Destin Harbor.

Youngsters will learn about dolphins and sharks, as well as land-bound animals and their habitats. Sessions include close encounters with owls, tortoises, gray foxes, and raccoons, plus an optional dolphin cruise.

They’ll learn how to build a sandcastle, and how to identify and collect seashells. Crafts projects round out the activities, which run from Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 3:00, through August 17.

Cost of the camp is $150 per week, with discounts available for families. To register, contact Susan Leveille at 850-650-1880 or sleveille@ecwildliferefuge.com.
